Contest For Home-Based Business Owners
Oh, give me a home, where your bu-si-ness roams...
That's about all the creativity I can muster post-holiday Monday, so let me tell the rest to you straight: StartupNation, an online community for entrepreneurs, has launched its 2008 Home-Based 100 Competition to honor "America's most outstanding home-based businesses and the people behind them."
Other than the obvious at-home requirement, to enter your business must have a Web site. Entries are being accepted through the end of September and need to fit into one of the following 10 categories (click on each one for a description, plus the home-based businesses that have already entered: Best Financial Performers, Most Innovative, Boomers Back in Business, Greenest, Yummiest, Wackiest, Grungiest, Recession Busters, Most Slacker Friendly, and Most Glamorous.
During the month of October, you'll be judged by StartupNation members, who'll vote for you on the site (which means you can solicit votes from essentially anyone you want as long as they join the site), as well as a panel of judges who will make their decisions based on:
- How well your business fits the category (or secondary category) for which you entered.
- The quality and completeness of the description about your business and the case you make for it.
- The popularity of your entry based on number of popular votes received.
Winners will be announced mid-November. The prize? How about free publicity, a message to pass onto your customers (not to mention potential customers), and an extra shot of credibility for your business.
